The maximum amount of firewood available to a residence is 10 units (about 1 cord) per
heating season. This limit may change based on supply and demand. For more information,

WNC FireWood has defined a unit as the measure for firewood distributed to residents. A long
bed (8-foot bed) pickup truck will hold about 5 units when stacked up to the sidewall or piled
slightly domed. A short bed pickup will hold about 3 units. A typical car trunk will hold about 1
unit. Using this scale allows for estimating the firewood provided to each residence fairly and
equitably.
