Training Requirements

1. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age to be a Splitter for WNC FireWood.
2. Read and understand the Wood Splitter Safety Manual, paying attention specifically to:
   • Proper clothing and protective gear
     1. We provide helmet (optional), eye protection, hearing protection.
     2. You provide proper clothing, leather shoes, gloves
   • Starting, stopping, fueling, maintenance (air filter, oil level, hydraulic fluid level, etc). Some of these items may not be in the manual but will be covered in the field.
   • Operation
     1. Only Splitter and Assistant near the splitter during operation.
     2. Never actuate the control valve until all people other than those specified above are clear.
     3. Lift with your knees not with your back.
     4. Know how to stop the log splitter and disengage the controls before operating it.
     5. Keep hands and feet clear of the splitting wedge.
3. Read and understand the
   • Splitter position description,
   • Firewood specifications,
   • Kindling specifications,
   • Splitting Team description,
   • Woodlot Procedures, and
   • Wood Splitter Safety Manual (mentioned above).
4. Complete field training at the woodlot with Equipment Coordinator.
5. Must also complete
   • Assistant training and
   • First Aid training.
6. Receive a signed Splitter Training Completion form.
